Edward Alan Moore - Dec 9, 2022

Dr. Edward Alan Moore plays the Three Chorales by Cesar Franck - Saturday, December 10th, 4pm at East Liberty Presbyterian Church to celebrate the 200th Franck birthday. In this conversation with Jim Cunningham, he talks about Franck the man and his contribution to the music world and we listen to a recording of the first chorale played by the organist at Notre Dame - Olivier Latry. Edward also fills us in on "Christmas in East Liberty" on Friday, December 16th, a free concert with the Brass Roots, organ and choir.

Eric Dzugan - Dec 8, 2022

Eric Dzugan presents Deodat de Severac, a 150th Anniversary Concert at the JCC in Squirrel Hill Sunday December 11 at 2:30pm  with soprano Katie manukyan. There is an elaborate commemorative booklet available at the concert written by the pianist who has dedicated the event to his teacher Gabriel D’Abruzzo.

Cello Fury - Dec 8, 2022

The members of Cello Fury with guest artist flute Zoe Sorrel perform live in the studio at WQED in advance of their concerts in Pittsburgh and Cleveland. They speak with Jim Cunningham about the concert and what they are up to as active teachers in the area.  Here is the detail from their website: 

Join us this December for the annual “Cello Fury and Friends Holiday Shows!”  We're bringing together new guest performers for two Pittsburgh shows, plus we're adding a concert in Cleveland!  Each show will bring together amazing musicians for a unique and festive experience!

PITTSBURGH SHOWS
Friday, December 16: Unplugged!  Pittsburgh show in Shadyside featuring the acoustic Cello Fury trio with special guests Zoe Sorrell (flute) and Jacquelynn Ware (vocals), for an intimate evening of original, traditional and holiday music.  Ticket info: Adult General Admission $20; Youth/College Students $12.  All ages show. 7:30 pm show/7 pm doors.

Saturday, December 17: Amplified!  Pittsburgh show in Shadyside featuring the full band with David Throckmorton (drums) plus special guests Rishi Bahl (vocals/guitar) and Scott Boni (saxophone). The Saturday show will rock out with the full Cello Fury band, with vocals, guitar and saxophone added to the mix.  Ticket info: Adult General Admission $20; Youth/College Students $12.  All ages show.  7:30 pm show/7 pm doors. 
 

Rick Smith - South Hills Chorale - Dec 7, 2022

The South Hills Chorale presents their holiday concert "Tis the Season To Be Singing" December 16th at 7 and 17th at 2pm at the Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park PA. Rick Smith, the Executive Director, has the details on the program and the spirit of the group. He tells Jim Cunningham about the 62 years of history and why the singers participate. Phil Aley is the conductor. After a half century with Hank Monch, Phil upholds the traditions. A retired certified financial planner Rick suggests stay the course, what goes down must come up. Tickets are $20.

Daniel Nesta Curtis talks about the CMU Philharmonic and Chorus December concert taking place at Carnegie Music Hall on Thursday December 8th, as well as the Pittsburgh Philharmonic concert taking place on Sunday December 18th at the Greater Pittsburgh Masonic Center.

Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh - Dec 2, 2022

An Evening with Joy Ike happens twice this weekend December 3 2022 at Rodef Shalom Temple 7:30pm and December 4 3:30pm at Sixth Presbyterian Church. The Gershwin Lullaby, Grieg Holberg Suite and arrangements made just for the songs of Joy Ike. Conductor Edward Leonard joins Joy Ike and Executive Director Andrew Swenson to dig in to the joys of the event. Joy, born in Pittsburgh but more recently living in Philadelphia tells Jim Cunningham her philosophy and inspiration with the journey so far.
